Phase Changer began with a simple idea: finding a better way to provide reliable three-phase power where only single-phase electricity was available.

Developed by Australian industrial electrician and inventor Mark Bridgman, Phase Changer grew from practical electrical engineering, hands-on experience and solving real problems for machinery owners. The innovation was recognised nationally when Mark and Phase Changer were featured on ABC Television’s The New Inventors.

Phase Changer also travelled beyond Australia. Systems were supplied to the United Kingdom, New Zeland, South Africa, China, Vietnam and Tunisia, including applications powering irrigation pumps on coffee plantations in Vietnam and olive farms in Tunisia. Some of the most memorable feedback came from older women running coffee plantations in Vietnam, who sent Mark notes thanking him for helping solve a problem that had made operating their farms difficult. For Mark, that has always been one of the greatest rewards of Phase Changer — using his knowledge to solve a real problem and seeing the difference it makes to someone’s livelihood.

Despite opportunities to expand internationally, we made a deliberate decision to focus on Australia and remain a small Australian family business. Staying small allows us to remain close to our customers and put our resources into the product, its development and the support we provide rather than the overheads of a large organisation.

More than two decades later, Mark is still hands-on — speaking directly with customers, working through unusual applications and developing solutions when a standard answer isn’t enough. Many customers have stayed in touch with us for years even decades, and some have become very good friends.

For us, Phase Changer has never been simply about selling electrical equipment. There is a particular satisfaction in knowing that something we manufacture can enable a farm, workshop or small Australian business to operate machinery where access to three-phase power would otherwise make it difficult or impossible.

That problem-solving spirit is where Phase Changer began, and it remains at the heart of our family business today.
